Responsibilities
- Conduct original research and deliver milestone objectives for projects funded by Hort Frontiers.
- Develop stingless bees as crop pollinators.
- Assess pollination-dependence in key crops and cultivars.
- Assess the effects of bumble bees as invasive pollinators in Tasmania.
- Develop new methods for managing bee hives for crop pollination services.
- Conduct experiments and assess the pollination-dependence of key crops.
- Collaborate with senior members of the HIE Pollination Team in strategic planning and logistical oversight.
- Liaise with external collaborators and end-users to communicate research findings and develop research ideas.
- Communicate research work at scientific meetings and publish in high-impact international journals.
- Contribute to teaching and supervising Masters and PhD students.
Requirements
- PhD in a field related to bees and pollination.
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in insect pollination and managing social bee hives.
- Skilled in using automated tracking technologies like radio tracking or RFID tags to study bee behaviour.
- Proficient in statistical platforms and data management.
- Demonstrated track record of writing papers for internationally recognised scientific journals.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Proven track record in developing, leading, and securing research grants in apiculture and crop pollination.
