Ref 4447/24 - Indigenous Engagement Project Officer
Full-time, Ongoing Position
Based at Hawkesbury Campus with responsibilities across Greater Western Sydney
This identified role is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, in accordance with Section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977.
Are you passionate about empowering Indigenous youth and making a real difference in their educational journeys? Western Sydney University is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Indigenous Engagement Project Officer to join our team.
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of inspiring young Indigenous students to dream big and achieve their goals. Working on programs like “Heartbeat” for primary students and “Pathways to Dreaming” for high schoolers, you will help build confidence, academic skills, and cultural pride, guiding students towards future education and career opportunities. Your work will have a lasting impact on their lives, strengthening their connections to culture and community while encouraging them to set and achieve their educational aspirations.
You'll be preparing work plans, organising events, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, and developing promotional materials. Whether you're hosting program activities, supervising student ambassadors, or contributing to reports and evaluations, you’ll play a vital role in making sure these initiatives run smoothly and effectively. Your insights and ideas will help shape the future of these programs, and your contributions will foster positive change across the Greater Western Sydney region.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives on building relationships, enjoys working directly with young people, and has a strong sense of cultural awareness and social justice. If you have experience engaging with Indigenous youth and are eager to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are key, along with a willingness to embrace change and tackle new challenges.
You'll be part of a supportive team that shares your passion for making a difference, reporting to the Senior Project Officer, Indigenous Engagement and working alongside other dedicated Indigenous Engagement Project Officers and Indigenous Engagement Project Support Officers.
Given the nature of the role, you will need a valid driver’s license and access to your own vehicle, as frequent travel between campuses and schools is essential to the success of the programs. A current NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance is also required.
