Provide high-quality, independent legal advice on a broad range of issues, with a focus on administrative law, governance, and compliance.
Support the implementation of regulatory and legislative compliance programs.
Represent the University in legal negotiations and litigation when necessary.
Lead and deliver legal training, publications, and other resources to promote compliance awareness.
Work closely with senior management and internal divisions on complex legal matters affecting the University.
Stay informed of evolving legal risks and regulatory changes, ensuring that La Trobe University remains compliant and proactive in its legal obligations.
Requirements
At least 3+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in administrative law, governance, or general regulatory compliance.
Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovative and strategic solutions.
Experience in managing multiple stakeholders and influencing senior leadership.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to negotiate, motivate, and build relationships.
A degree in law and a current practising certificate (or the right to hold one under the Victorian Legal Profession Act 2004).

Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including consultancy agreements, licenses, nondisclosure agreements, student placement agreements, gift agreements and more.
Provide legal advice on a wide range of issues affecting UQ, including student matters, policy development, bequests, privacy, administrative law and governance.
Draft correspondence and negotiate with external lawyers involved in disputes.
Contribute to strengthening the knowledge and capacity of UQ staff regarding legal and regulatory frameworks.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients, team members, and external stakeholders.
Assist in overseeing and managing legal services provided by external law firms and counsel.
Contribute to the proactive identification and management of current and emerging legal risks and priorities for UQ.

Requirements
Qualified Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant post-admission experience.
Strong expertise in commercial and contract law, coupled with proficiency in drafting legal documents and resolving complex legal matters.
Solutions-oriented approach with excellent judgment and business acumen.
Capable of managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and adapting positively to change and uncertainty.
Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
Effective written and oral communicator, skilled at negotiating with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrate ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively under the supervision and direction of senior lawyers.
