About the Role
This role provides essential legal support to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and affiliated institutions. As a member of the MDHS legal team, you will deliver high-quality, strategic legal advice to the University, collaborating with internal customers and supporting our research, innovation, and commercialisation efforts. With a focus on intellectual property, research collaborations, and commercial contracting, you will engage with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex legal concepts in a clear, concise manner.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Offer expert guidance on research collaborations, commercialization, and intellectual property matters within a university context.
- Work independently under the Director's leadership while building strong relationships within and outside the University.
- Champion teamwork and excellence. Contribute to a collaborative team culture, promote high-performance best practices, and deliver exceptional service.
Who we are looking for
We seek a highly skilled legal professional with expertise in intellectual property, commercial law, or contract law. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building client relationships, drafting complex agreements, and delivering exceptional service. Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to ethical standards are essential.
You will also have:
- A minimum of five years postgraduate experience in relevant discipline(s).
- Higher education sector desirable but not essential.
- Current Victorian practicing certificate.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
