Conducting comprehensive assessments of the existing Research data platforms, identifying areas of complexity, duplication, or inefficiency.
Review the current Research data governance framework within UNSW and define changes required to further reduce the data risk.
Collaborate with Business Analysts to review project requirements, encompassing meta-data management, regulatory compliance, gap analysis, financial modeling, and contribute to the creation/updating of reference architecture and blueprints with a focus on pattern identification and data modeling.
Define actions to reduce the data risk created by unnecessary holdings of identity documents and other personal information (PI) in a number of research data platform repositories and define relevant approach to remediate the risk.
Collaborating with stakeholders to create a Research data roadmap aligned with the UNSW’s goals and objectives. This involves defining strategies to increase compliance and security, consolidate systems, and improve efficiency.
Extensive experience in end-to-end large-scale data storage and management solutions, desirably for research, including information and data systems/platforms, data and metadata management and discovery, highly sensitive data and privacy-preserving systems, and movement, integration and linkage.
Demonstrated experience in composable solution architecture, system design and solution ownership - from inception to operationalization, including developing security, integration patterns, modern information/data models, designs and requirements in a hybrid and cloud-centric environment (e.g., AWS & Azure).
Demonstrated experience in system modelling, cost optimisation, performance and data/Information.
Strong understanding of research lifecycle, strategy, policies and practices, challenges and opportunities and infrastructure and technology needs across different scientific disciplines.
Developing simplified, scalable, and agile technology architectures that streamline processes, reduce dependencies, and enhance interoperability among systems and applications.
Identifying opportunities for consolidation and simplification of research data platforms to reduce the overall complexity of the UNSW technology landscape.
Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent service experience providing architecture and consulting.
Extensive and broad data architecture experience.
Extensive experience with Data Governance, Compliance and Regulatory requirements.
Extensive experience with Azure and AWS cloud technologies and with exposure to cloud tools.
Proficient background in financials, costing, quoting, and proposal management.
Desirable - other corporate/higher education architecture experience.
Ability to engage effectively with business and IT stakeholders, understand demand for technology services, distil complex business issues into easily understood messages and successfully communicate opportunities for greater business efficiency and effectiveness.
Excellent written and verbal presentation and negotiation skills, with the ability to structure and articulate messages to different audiences at all levels.
Extensive experience and knowledge of data architecture and design, creating and maintaining blueprints, reference models, and lifecycle models for technology solutions.
Demonstrated experience in performing technical governance in a complex environment.
Recognised as a subject matter expert in Data architecture, able to give specialist advice to others and with experience of driving technology change.
