Responsibilities
Create and implement yearly Health, Safety and Management Plans and OH&S objectives for the faculty.
Implement and monitor University OH&S policies and risk management strategies within the faculty for both staff and students.
Establish and implement policies for managing significant risks, including off-campus activities and production and event delivery.
Oversee health monitoring, provide advice on existing and emerging health hazards, including audiology, spirometry and psychosocial risk management and maintain accurate OH&S records.
Report compliance with OH&S policies to senior management, review incident statistics via the University’s Enterprise Risk Management System (ERMS platform), and oversee internal and external audit processes in conjunction with Faculty senior leadership.
Lead investigations for serious OH&S incidents, conduct specialist risk assessments, and advise on control methods.
Develop and implement OH&S training programs, support Faculty OH&S committees including Faculty-specific training and OHS inductions for new staff and students, as well as prepare materials for presentations and meetings.
Manage and develop a staff member, providing effective coaching, motivation and direction to enable them to achieve their goals, setting clear performance expectations and providing regular feedback.
Requirements
A qualification in OH&S, environmental management or related qualification and extensive relevant work experience.
Significant experience within the live performance industry, managing and implementing safety and risk management methodology and procedures specific to live performance.
Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety and environmental legislation, Regulations and Codes in Victoria and relevant Australian standards and the ability to apply these to a complex organisation.
Demonstrated knowledge and some experience of the implementation and maintenance of auditable certified OH&S and risk management systems certified to AS4801.
Demonstrated experience in the coordination and implementation of OH&S within the context of training programs, productions and performances to support emotional wellbeing, neurodiversity and physical safety for students, staff and creative practitioners.

Responsibilities
Lead and implement innovative projects with the HSW and Facilities Manager and School Manager to create operational efficiencies and improve workplace health, safety, and wellness.
Advise and support School and Faculty stakeholders on Workplace Health and Safety Act responsibilities and best practices, including developing WHS Management Plans; assist in WHS report writing, data analysis, and corrective actions.
Identify hazards, propose/implement risk control measures and management strategies, advise on risk assessment requirements for laboratories and research projects, participate in OH&S committees and comply with Queensland WHS legislation and University procedures.
Coordinate HSW projects and priorities across the Faculty to ensure consistent service delivery and adherence to UQ Policies and Procedures; act as WHSC for the Faculty office, conducting inspections, training, and supporting HSW management plans and risk assessments.
Provide leadership to First Aid Officers in the Faculty of EAIT, ensuring up-to-date training, adherence to policies, and maintenance of first aid kits; lead investigations into serious work injuries, incidents, and near misses, identifying corrective actions and resource needs.
Coordinate workplace inspections and audits, develop and maintain effective communication systems for safety issues within the Faculty and identify and monitor compliance with mandatory training requirements across the Faculty.
Provide support and assistance to the Facilities Coordinator and Facilities Team when required.
Requirements
Hold a related bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years’ relevant experience, or possess extensive relevant experience and management expertise, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, along with a formal qualification in health and safety or related discipline.
Demonstrate knowledge of Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness principles and practices, including risk assessment, and their application in diverse university environments, with familiarity with relevant regulatory bodies and a range of hazards and risks (e.g., hazardous chemicals, equipment, manual handling, occupational hygiene, and psychosocial risks).
Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills for effective communication with various individuals and agencies, and for promoting Workplace Health and Safety culture and training; high level computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet software, with experience in the University’s in-house systems or the ability to learn their use.
Show capacity to interpret and apply current legislation to work situations, lead teams in developing policies and procedures, use judgment, act independently, and take initiative within established frameworks and guidelines; demonstrate empathy and leadership in acute situations.
Ability to work cooperatively with Faculty staff, University members, and external entities; current First Aid training or willingness to undertake it is well-regarded; extensive experience in a University or large organization and familiarity with University’s WHS policies is desirable.
