Responsibilities

Requirements
A PhD or equivalent experience in business, economics, management, sociology or a relevant field with expertise in social and/or environmental impact.
Demonstrated track record in research aligned with the Centre’s strategic priorities with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
High-level qualitative or quantitative research, and a proven record in the use of a range of data analysis techniques; knowledge of appropriate IT software such as Stata, SPSS, Endnote and NVIVO.
Demonstrated ability to obtain research funding and participate in collaborative research and educational projects.
Demonstrated ability to undertake independent research, high-level of initiative and flexibility, team- oriented independence and problem-solving ability to meet strict and competing deadlines.
Demonstrated experience and expertise cultivating and participating in diverse collaborations that include academic and non-academic stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience and expertise in project management including management of budgets and financial information, data collection and analysis, measuring and reporting outcomes, and the ability to work to agreed timelines.

This PhD scholarship will align with the Australian Research Council (ARC) funded project, ‘Sustainable Business Models for Marine Conservation’, conducted by Dr Benjamin Thompson.
The successful applicant will develop a relatable but distinct project; for example, examining relationships between the ecological, social, governance, financial, and/or business aspects of marine conservation, and optionally, linking to broader developments around the blue economy around sustainable use of the oceans.
Requirements
The successful applicant will have at least one degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., geography, environmental science, business, economics, finance).
Specific experience across conservation science, human geography, environmental finance, and/or corporate sustainability would be advantageous.
They will also have experience conducting social science research methods, whilst experience with other research methods such as geospatial analysis, ecological census techniques, and/or economic and financial analysis would be advantageous.
