Responsibilities
Provide advice on human research ethics matters, including the provision of confidential high-level interpretation and recommendations aligned with relevant internal and external frameworks and legislation.
Lead the development and implementation of information resources, policies and procedures, university intranet and website information to support human research ethics compliance.
Maintain strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including internal stakeholders such as researchers, faculties, centres and review bodies, and various external stakeholders, to achieve ethical research outcomes.
Lead the Research ethics advisor (REA) group, meet regularly, to engender ethical support across the university.
Discretely manage sensitive matters including potential breaches or complaints relating to human research in line with regulatory requirements, from internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the interpretation of data, risk identification and recommendations related to human research ethics, to leadership and other bodies, as required.
Lead the development, management and continuous improvement of university wide business human research ethics processes and systems, to provide efficiencies and accurate internal and external reporting.
Actively manage priorities and set direction to ensure customer-focused engagement, developing and supporting strategies that will support ethical research culture.
Manage ethical review bodies in accordance with external regulatory and internal policy requirements; including appropriate membership configuration, recruitment, induction and professional development.
Requirements
A thorough knowledge of, and commitment to, the current legislation, standards and codes of practice relating to human research ethics, and their implications for the conduct of research.
Demonstrated experience in maintaining relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders internal and external to the University.
Experience in a research environment, with demonstrated knowledge of governance.
Ability to apply relevant codes and legislation related to human research ethics and research governance within Australia.
Familiarity with ethics research management systems and demonstrated system administration skills.
Highly developed time, workload and project management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to effectively manage multiple projects and implementation of strategic ventures.
Strong communication skills, interpersonal and public relations skills to enable professional interaction with a range of people including senior management and staff, the public, dignitaries and representatives from other organisations.
Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, tact, and discretion in dealing with matters of a confidential or controversial nature.
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead projects, to motivate self and others to delivery new initiatives in a busy environment.
Ability to work autonomously with self-motivation, and to lead collegial communication as part of a team, committed to the organisation.
