Responsibilities
- Chair and contribute to (at least) monthly Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) meetings
- Chair weekly AEC Executive meetings
- Conduct yearly AEC inspection of La Trobe licensed facilities across all campuses
Requirements
- Not be a paid employee of La Trobe University
- Have current/recent research experience with laboratory and/or wildlife animals and/or AEC committee experience
- Be able to interpret and direct the University to act appropriately according to legislation and policy
- Be able to review large proposals within short time timeframes
- Possess effective interpersonal skills

Responsibilities
- Assist in the ethical review of human research proposals submitted by UNSW staff, researchers, and students.
- Preparation for monthly meetings, involving the review of approximately 1-3 applications per month (approximately 2-3 hours per month).
- Attendance at the monthly meetings, each lasting approximately 3 hours, or providing comments in lieu of attendance where required.
- Facilitating the review of research classified at the greater than low-risk levels, ensuring adherence to national and UNSW guidelines.
- Attendance at any required HREC member training.
Requirements
- Specialised knowledge and experience in the care, protection, and safety of people (for Professional Care members).
- Ability to perform a pastoral care role in a community (for Pastoral Care members).
- No affiliation, paid or unpaid, with UNSW (for Layperson members).
- Willingness to prepare for and attend monthly meetings.
