Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the other members of the physics discipline at the University of Adelaide
  • Add to and/or augment areas of existing strengths in theoretical particle and nuclear physics
  • Areas such as particle physics, nuclear physics, nonperturbative QCD, particle astrophysics and particle cosmology
  • Collider phenomenology of beyond-the-Standard Model theories (at the LHC and future facilities)
  • Model building of these theories
  • Particle astrophysics
  • Cosmological tests of fundamental physics
  • Lattice QCD
  • Hadron structure
  • Neutron stars
  • Nuclear structure
  • Precision tests of fundamental interactions
  • Close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists is actively encouraged


Requirements

  • A PhD in Theoretical Physics, or equivalent higher degree, in an area that aligns with and/or augments existing and emerging strengths in theoretical particle and nuclear physics at The University of Adelaide
  • A commitment to excellence in relevant areas of theoretical physics
  • Demonstrated publication track record in relevant areas of theoretical physics in leading academic journals
  • A strong interest in and commitment to the delivery of quality undergraduate education
  • Experience in and/or enthusiasm for the supervision of graduate students
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team in a complex setting
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Very good organisational and management skills
  • Advanced analytic and computational skills, including the demonstrated ability to perform numerical and symbolic calculations
