The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University. The School offers Engineering degree programs in Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, and, Renewable Energy as well as degree programs in Surveying and Geospatial Engineering. The School is rated well above the sector average for quality of overall experience for undergraduate engineering students and for median salaries with more than 90% of our engineering undergraduates finding employment within 4 months of completing their studies.
The University was established to serve the Hunter and Central Coast. The Hunter region is not only Australia’s largest regional economy, it has the greatest growth in NSW outside of the Sydney Basin. The region is home to the Newcastle Port, the Williamtown Airport and the Williamtown RAAF base as well as developers and manufacturers of a diverse range of technologies and devices. It is rich in natural mineral and water resources, electricity generation capacity and food and wine producers. The transformation of the Hunter and Central Coast offers many exciting opportunities for research and industrial collaboration including with industries focussed on infrastructure and resource development. In addition to research collaborations, the School has well-established connections with industry through sponsored undergraduate students and student placements. The Role
The Civil Engineering program provides students with critical technical skills in structural engineering, civil engineering materials, geomechanics, water engineering, transport engineering and engineering management.
The Surveying program provides students with critical surveying and engineering skills related to local land and mining surveying techniques, spatial data systems, satellite positioning geodesy and remote sensing.
The Environmental Engineering program provides students with critical technical skills in sustainability, water engineering, environmental process technologies underpinned by environmental sciences and engineering principles especially related to geotechnics and hydrogeology.
As a member of the discipline, the successful candidate will:
- Provide sustained and significant research performance to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students to the discipline.
- Attract and successfully manage industry-based research support and competitive external grant funding at national and international level.
- Work cohesively within a team environment to strengthen current and future research priorities of the School.
- Enhance student learning and experience by delivering a relevant curriculum using contemporary teaching pedagogies (e.g. blended and active learning).
- Contribute to teaching and/or teaching development in the broader area of Civil and Geospatial Engineering and Surveying, especially including HDR student supervision.
- Promote cooperation between the university, government, national and international academia, and industry.
- Actively participate in service activities within the School, College and University to maintain academic standards and administrative effectiveness.
This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal land).

How will you become part of our community?
The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer who is PhD qualified in Structural Engineering or Geospatial Engineering with a passion for teaching in areas covering:
- structural design, analysis and modelling;
- sustainable engineering practice incorporating circular economy impacts and environmental legislation;
- managing project complexity, chaos and big data;
- the role of digital technologies and the internet of things on infrastructure, remote sensing, geospatial engineering, and resource management and development.
In addition, the successful candidate will have a proven record of developing and implementing high-quality, safe, and inclusive learning environments for students using adaptive and innovative teaching methods, such as online teaching and hands-on experiences. You will have demonstrated ability to engage and network with external organisations, to secure research funding and to assist industry in solving highly complex technical problems as well as a demonstrated record of successful leadership of research, including publications in areas such as:
- advanced structural analysis and design;
- sustainable and reliable development and rejuvenation of on-shore and off-shore infrastructure;
- remote sensing;
- geospatial engineering;
- adaptation and transformation of infrastructure, be it urban, coastal and rural resources including water, energy, critical minerals and food;
- defence will be favourably considered.

The remuneration for this position is ranges from $132,768 - $153,093 plus 17% superannuation.
