Data Engineer
Prime opportunity to join IT in the Data & Insight Team.

About the Role
In this role, you will operate under the guidance of the Team Lead, Data Engineering, within our Information Technology department. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing and supporting Swinburne University's data platform, collaborating with the Data Engineering team to deliver impactful solutions.
Your primary responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of data pipelines, ensuring code quality, and adhering to best practices for data ingestion, integration, and consumption. You will prioritize security, data governance, and DevOps principles in your work.
You will be instrumental in implementing data solutions, driving continuous improvements on the platform, and ensuring the efficient functioning of data workflows. Your expertise in AWS cloud technologies will be vital as you align data and analytics solutions with the university’s strategic objectives.
Additionally, you will engage in ongoing improvement initiatives and work collaboratively with your colleagues to achieve project targets successfully.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated expert level skills in data engineering technologies including Structured Query Language (SQL), Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Apache Spark and Python.
- Skilled on cloud data architectures and Big Data Analytics in AWS Stack (Athena, Glue, Kinesis, Redshift, Step functions, Lambda, EMR, S3, DynamoDB, Postgres).
- Solid hands-on experience on advanced SQL techniques on cloud data warehouse technologies e.g. Redshift, Databricks lake house etc.
- Expertise in data lake ingestion tools such as Fivetran, Matillion, Informatica, or similar.
- Experience implementing a DataOps framework and with CI/CD highly preferred.
- Ability to lead projects, guide junior engineers and mentor others.
Qualifications
Post graduate degree (or progress towards) in Computer Science, or a related field with significant experience; or an equivalent combination of significant experience and/or education and training.
Relevant Certifications (e.g. AWS Certification)
