About the Role
The Associate Director, Transactions plays a pivotal role in driving strategic business development initiatives at the University, in alignment with the University’s business development strategy. This position will initially focus on managing and executing a wide range of commercial transactions, including financing, real asset deals, and subsidiary businesses. The role will evolve to lead additional transactions identified by the Business Development team, while ensuring high-quality execution, effective stakeholder engagement, and the development of a robust transaction process framework.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading complex commercial contracts, debt, and equity transactions, coordinating workstreams across internal and external teams.
- Leading a team to manage, prioritise, and execute commercial negotiations and investment opportunities.
- Developing and implementing a transaction process framework, ensuring alignment with the University's investment process and overseeing effective record-keeping.
- Maintaining a transaction prospects pipeline and resourcing plan, ensuring the team can meet expectations and source external expertise as needed.
- Providing senior leadership to due diligence processes, assessing financial, legal, operational, and strategic aspects of business development opportunities.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking an experienced professional with strong stakeholder management, leadership, and commercial acumen, capable of driving financial decision-making, risk management, and continuous improvement. You will build stakeholder support, align commercial and not-for-profit interests, and develop processes to enhance team capability.
You will also have:
- Tertiary qualifications in finance, law, accounting, economics or strategy + CFA, CA/CPA, MBA etc.
- Demonstrated experience across leadership of strategy, people and influencing change.
- Advanced skill level across the areas of corporate finance knowledge, deal management and execution, and understanding of the tertiary institution business model alongside commercial arrangements.
- Significant experience and success in leading large M&A origination transactions through to financial close and transition arrangements.
- Advanced stakeholder management, commercial acumen and financial analysis capabilities.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
This position requires the incumbent to satisfy a satisfactory police check.

The Corporate Development (CD) team's core objective is to advance University strategy by driving institutional growth and strategic commercial initiatives. The team identifies and pursues these opportunities for partnerships and investments through market research, evaluation of potential deals, negotiation of terms, and integrates new assets or partners into the University’s business. Essentially, they work to enhance the University’s value and expand its market presence through strategic growth activities.
The Corporate Development (CD) team is comprised of six sub-portfolios including:
- Corporate Finance and Business Development
- Estate Planning
- Estate Development
- Commercial Management
- Portfolio Management and Capital Investment
- Treasury & Financial Investments
- Sustainability
The team is responsible for ensuring that the University’s property, infrastructure, and financial assets/liabilities enable strategy and provide a meaningful competitive advantage. The CD team’s key activities include strategy, planning and performance of the University’s estate, investment in and development of real property, capital planning and associated investment processes, enterprise portfolio management monitoring and reporting, oversight of financial investment portfolios, treasury and financial risk management, debt, commercial arrangement advisory and execution, and sustainability strategy development, planning, governance and reporting.
