About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Professor and Chair to join our newly established Department of Nursing at Swinburne.
The Professor and Chair will be tasked with providing academic leadership and operational management, reporting directly to the Executive Dean of the School of Health Sciences. This role involves strategic direction for the Department, focusing on the growth and development of its flagship programs. The Department Chair will collaborate closely with the existing nursing leadership team, the Executive Dean, School Executive Committee, and professional staff to enhance teaching, research, and professional activities. A commitment to innovation and diversity is essential, as the Chair will enrich the educational experience for both colleagues and students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Additionally, the Chair will oversee curriculum development across various delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and blended formats, while also supervising research students and teaching postgraduate units.
In addition to leading the Department, the Chair will contribute to the strategic development of academic offerings, research profiles, and student experiences, aligning with the School's established priorities. The School has been undergoing significant strategic growth with our new next gen_health strategy. The role emphasises collaboration and partnership development with other university departments, research centers, and external entities. The Department Chair will also work with key university areas such as International and Future Students and Engagement to enhance the Department's external profile and support its activities. Furthermore, the Chair will represent the University and School in external engagements and research initiatives, ensuring a strong presence in the academic and professional community.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Lead and manage the Department, including the formulation and implementation of the strategic, academic and business plans of the Department. The incumbent will make a significant contribution to the academic leadership of the discipline, department and school.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in nursing, including nursing leadership and education roles.
- Provide leadership to promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning and to ensure a culture of achieving high quality graduates.
- Leadership and mentoring in the School and in the discipline of nursing in particular.
- Contributing to or overseeing course structure, accreditation, selection of students, academic progress, outgoing exchange and study abroad, and study plans of students in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing courses.
- Professor and Chair, Department of Nursing, coordinate teaching, sessional staff/tutors and technical support to ensure efficient and knowledgeable teaching and learning.
- Deliver innovative, engaging and industry relevant curriculum.
- Demonstration of highly regarded original contributions to advancing knowledge in research and scholarship at a national and international level in Nursing.
- Generation of research publications in quality refereed journals (Q1 and Q2).
- Conduct research that is impactful and contributes to the development of the discipline.
- Actively identify and promote collaborative research opportunities and drive initiatives designed to enhance such links, including the development of industry and competitive research grants.

Qualifications
- A doctoral qualification in Nursing or a closely related discipline.
- AHPRA registration as a Nurse.
- A teaching qualification.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body.
