Casual academic employees are integral to the teaching and support activities of The University of Western Australia. Our casuals are engaged in a range of casual activities, including lecturing, tutoring, marking and lab demonstrations.

The UWA Doctor of Optometry offers a postgraduate Doctor of Optometry (OD).
The position offered is negotiated between the casual academic employee and their supervisors and will be determined by the duties specified in their casual contract.
The Clinical Skills tutors will be responsible to the Course Director to provide academic teaching.
The appointee will be motivated to deliver quality teaching in Optometry. S/he will actively participate in teaching into the Doctor of Optometry course as a Clinical Skills Instructor.
The individual appointed to this position will be expected to:
- Current AHPRA registration.
- Minimum 5-year experience as an Optometrist.
- Therapeutically endorsed.
- Teach high quality clinical skills in the UWA pre-clinical skills lab.
- Work collaboratively within the teaching teams and support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity principles.
- Other duties as directed.
To be considered for a casual academic position, you will demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Formal tertiary qualification(s).
- Relevant academic and clinical experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with flexible and innovative teaching methods, such as e-learning would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise students in a clinical environment.
- Extensive clinical knowledge and proficient clinical skills across a full range of Optometric areas of specialities.
