KIOSC Laboratory Technician
Lab Technician role within Vocational Education and Training
Part-time (0.4FTE), 12m fixed-term position at our Wantirna campus
HEW level 4 salary + 17% superannuation and staff benefits
About the Role
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team to perform a wide range of laboratory and science classroom activities, predominantly for high school students’ practical classes for KIOSC (Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre).
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing practical classes, set up and pull down of classes, troubleshooting experiments in collaboration with staff, advising students on various techniques and equipment usage, sourcing and purchasing of consumables and equipment, advising students on OH&S issues to ensure the safe and functional running of both student practical classes and general housekeeping of classrooms and laboratories.
As the KIOSC Lab Technician, you will ensure practical classes are run efficiently and effectively, offer support to staff and students and ensure laboratories are compliant with various regulations.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Experience in laboratory operations and demonstrated skills in the biology, chemistry and other general.
- Initiative to develop, test, troubleshoot and document experiments.
- A general knowledge of OH&S in relation to technical and laboratory operations.
- Experience and knowledge of non-laboratory STEM equipment and processes e.g. 3D printing, robotics, electronics, virtual reality, coding, etc. is preferred.
- Knowledge in the operation of a range of laboratory equipment and familiarity with the use of propriety software would be an advantage.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of AAS, GC, and HPLC is preferred.
Qualifications
Completion of a relevant science degree (Biotechnology or Biochemistry) or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
