The Opportunity
Monash Science is at the forefront of innovation and discovery in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and earth, atmospheric and environmental sciences. The Business Development Manager supports the Senior Business Development Manager in the delivery of the Faculty of Science’s industry and government partner engagement and research business development. This includes managing a range of strategic and operational activities including the identification and cultivation of industry and government research opportunities aligned to Faculty strategic research priorities.
This role will focus on:
- Contribute to strategic planning and goal achievement for Faculty Business Development, focusing on generating new research opportunities aligned with Faculty and University priorities
- Coordinate and oversee research business development operations, including pitching and proposal management, in compliance with University policies
- Provide research business development services such as grant preparation and pricing, ensuring adherence to University policies
- Plan and oversee negotiation of research contracts with various partners, seeking advice from legal and functional specialists
- Offer expert advice to Faculty leadership and researchers on research business, IP, risk, and compliance matters
To be successful in this role, you will utilise your:
- Experience in business development including planning, commercial and contractual negotiations, and management in a research-intensive environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport, negotiate and build consensus at senior levels with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and work well within cross functional teams exercising high levels of independence, judgement and initiative
- Demonstrated experience in working with researchers to develop technical proposals of commercial interest with a strong awareness of risk assessment, intellectual property, confidentiality and scholarly considerations
- An understanding of and empathy with the higher education sector and with research undertaken in the Faculty of Science
