About This Opportunity
The Principal Health, Safety, and Wellness Advisor is a hands-on leader responsible for driving the implementation of the UQ Health, Safety, and Wellness Strategy 2022-2026 across the Property and Facilities Division. With a proven track record in delivering health and safety management in a large-scale facility or infrastructure maintenance setting, you'll be at the forefront of promoting high WHS standards and a positive safety culture.
This role involves providing strategic advice, supporting compliance with legislation, and ensuring alignment with the University's HSW Management System. You'll also collaborate with the central HSW Division and have the opportunity to lead innovative projects that enhance workplace health, safety, and wellness across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement projects to improve workplace health, safety, and wellness, while advising stakeholders on best practices and compliance with legislation.
- Identify and manage risks, conduct incident investigations, and provide reports to senior management on internal trends and relevant external events.
- Develop and deliver WHS professional development and training, ensuring compliance with mandatory requirements.
- Collaborate with teams to foster a positive safety culture, support safety leadership, and provide consistent HSW advice across the P&F division.

About You
A qualification in occupational health and safety or similar with at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Experience working in a construction environment, or experience managing health and safety in relation to high-risk construction activities.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles and legislation related to Workplace Health and Safety, Fire Safety, and Electrical Safety Acts and Regulations, and experience in applying the requirements and responsibilities in a construction, infrastructure, or facilities management setting.
Demonstrated skills in interpreting policies, implementing procedures, and developing local guidelines for a large, complex organisation.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a diverse range of people both within and external to the University.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, with excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
Ability to negotiate and influence others in a constructive, outcomes-focused manner particularly with the promotion of positive HSW culture and good laboratory practice.
Experience managing health and safety relating to other facets of service and/or facilities, such as traffic/transport, maintenance, logistics/goods handling, site security, grounds maintenance, electrical work, emergency response is desirable.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia etc.
