The Organisation
The Centre for Molecular Oncology is a new research centre established within the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW which is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer. The Centre applies basic, translational and clinical approaches to understanding cancer biology through patient-centred discovery programs and uses this information to improve patient outcomes through clinical trials.
Why this role matters
Play a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Centre for Molecular Oncology. The role involves providing technical and research support to senior researchers in order to successfully execute research and Real World Evidence projects. These projects utilise data from the Molecular Screening and Therapeutics (MoST) Program and the Cancer Screening Program (CaSP), requiring expertise and application of knowledge in the field of molecular oncology.
The role reports to the Senior Program Manager – Clinical Follow Up, which supports the Centre for Molecular Oncology, and may coordinate day-to-day activities for up to two Research Assistants.
Some key skills required:
- A university degree in science or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
- Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated experience to prioritise tasks and workload.
- Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including patient databases, Office suite and other data entry software, including ability to rapidly learn new software as needed.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
