Conduct independent research, leading to publications in conferences and journals, while actively collaborating with researchers in the School of Computing and Information Systems.
Engage in impactful research and contribute to teaching, whilst developing your communication and teaching skills while mentoring future students. Teaching comprises 20% of the role, which will allow you to focus primarily on your research.
About the Role
This role presents a unique opportunity for an accomplished researcher and educator to contribute significantly to the University of Melbourne's School of Computing and Information Systems. You will coordinate and conduct engaging lectures and tutorials at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels while actively participating in teaching innovation. Additionally, you will lead independent research projects, contribute to the development of a robust research program in AI, Representation Learning, and Natural Language Processing, and collaborate with a dynamic team dedicated to excellence in teaching and research.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and conduct lectures and tutorials for undergraduate and postgraduate students, ensuring effective delivery and continuous improvement of teaching materials.
- Independently plan and execute research projects, analysing data and communicating findings to collaborators and stakeholders.
- Prepare technical reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals while maintaining detailed records of experiments conducted.
- Collaborate with colleagues and assist in experiments to enhance the department’s research output in AI, Representation Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
Who We Are Looking For
We seek individuals who are passionate about teaching and research, demonstrating a commitment to student success and continuous improvement. The ideal applicant will exhibit strong organizational skills, collaborative abilities, and a proactive approach to developing innovative teaching materials and conducting impactful research.
You will also have:
- A PhD in Computer Vision, AI, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or a related discipline.
- Proven research record with publications in leading journals and conferences appropriate to experience.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to conducting independent and interdisciplinary research.
- Excellent communication skills for effectively conveying complex research concepts to diverse audiences.
- Desirable skills include experience with Deep Learning Frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and C++/CUDA programming.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
