The Opportunity
The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW Sydney is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for an exciting research project funded by an ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship. This project, titled "Light-Driven Manufacturing for (Re)Programmable Materials," focuses on developing cutting-edge photochemical techniques for 3D printing.
Project Overview:
This research aims to revolutionize 3D printing by developing innovative photochemical tools that utilize different wavelengths of light to selectively trigger specific reactions. This wavelength-controlled approach will enable the simultaneous execution of multiple reactions, streamlining the fabrication of complex, multi-material 3D objects with unprecedented precision and functionality.

Salary: Level A - $110,059 annum + 17% superannuation

Skills & Experience
- PhD (or soon to be awarded) in material science or chemistry, with expertise in photopolymerization, photocontrolled/living radical polymerization (such as Reversible Addition Fragmentation Chain Transfer polymerisation; Atom transfer radical polymerization) and photocationic polymerization, photocatalyst and photoinitiator synthesis.
- Strong background in photochemistry, polymer chemistry, and/or 3D printing.
- Excellent experimental and analytical skills.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Demonstrated previous research experience in polymer synthesis, photochemistry, and synthesis of functional monomer.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
