Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in advancing the University and Faculty strategic research plans.
  • Chair the Faculty Research Committee and have oversight of its subcommittees, including the School of Education HDR Committee and the School of Philosophy & Theology HDR Committee.
  • Report to the Executive Dean, Faculty Meetings, Faculty Board and Faculty Executive.
  • Liaise with other Faculty leaders on matters of research, including the Institute Directors and National and Deputy Heads of Schools.
  • Contribute as a member to various University research and other committees, including to research policy development.
  • Encourage an engaged, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and quality research environment, for instance through research seminars, research publications, research hubs and research events.
  • Manage the Postgraduate Research Coordinators (PRCs) and maintain oversight of HDR (Higher Degree by Research) progress in Faculty, working closely with the HDR Lead in the Research Office.
  • Work with PRCs to create an engaged community of HDR students.
  • Liaise with the Research Integrity Officer in the Faculty and the Research Integrity and Ethics Lead in the Research Office to create a culture of research integrity in the Faculty and to manage ethics mentors, data management and ethics processes.
  • Work with the Pro Vice Chancellor Research, the other ADRs and the Research Office to encourage a strong research environment at the University level.
  • Provide advice to the PVCR on HDR admissions, annual progress, and key milestones (Confirmation of Candidature, thesis submission).
  • Provide advice to the Executive Dean on proposed grant applications.

Requirements
  • Possession of a PhD qualification.
  • Academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or the profession.
  • In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard is had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or contributions to technical achievement.
