About the Role
We are seeking an experienced HR Manager for a newly established role at Swinburne College, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping our human resources approach. In this position, you will provide expert HR advice and services, building on our previous collaboration with the People and Culture team at Swinburne University.
To succeed in this role, you will need to possess extensive HR expertise, enabling you to effectively plan and execute initiatives that enhance workforce performance and promote a positive organisational culture. As the inaugural HR Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing essential frameworks, processes, and systems to fulfill the comprehensive HR needs of Swinburne College. This includes overseeing the transition of existing operational processes from Swinburne University to our internal People and Culture function.
In addition, you will support Swinburne College in executing a new Enterprise Agreement when it is activated. Your role will require creative problem-solving skills, as you will need to adapt and tailor HR services to meet the unique needs of our institution. About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Extensive relevant experience in a post-secondary or higher education setting
- Demonstrated ability to identify business needs and develop plans.
- Experience working in a unionised and complex environment.
- Sound problem solving skills including the ability to analyse a range of options and provide advice, where guidance may not always be available.
- Sound knowledge of employment legislation and experience in interpreting Awards, Enterprise Agreements, policies and procedures.
- Experience in successful dispute resolution, performance management, grievance handling and mediation.
Qualifications
Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Human Resources or a related field such as Business.

About Swinburne College
Swinburne College was established in 2020 as a joint venture partnership between Swinburne University and UP Education to deliver a range of pathway programs for both international and domestic students.
These programs (Foundation Year, UniLink Diplomas, ELICOS, Postgraduate Qualifying Program) assist students to reach the entry requirements for a university degree, transition from post-secondary to higher education or improve English language skills. Pathway program teachers are responsible for inspiring, engaging and educating our students for the 21st century, implementing industry best practice and applying current learning technologies and contemporary learning pedagogies.
