About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Laboratory Technician to join a collaborative and innovative team at the University of Melbourne. In this role, you will work across specialised labs, contributing to pioneering research in areas such as biomechanics and biomedical imaging, while honing your technical expertise. Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the go-to technical expert, providing support to teaching and research activities and advising staff and students on the use of specialised laboratory equipment.
- Managing laboratory operations, including maintenance, calibration, and safety compliance of equipment, and ensuring smooth procurement of lab consumables.
- Facilitating the purchase and installation of new equipment while ensuring adherence to OHS and operational standards.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of laboratory activities and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, including risk assessments and regulatory guidelines.
Who We Are Looking For
We’re looking for individuals who demonstrate strong initiative, excellent communication skills, and a passion for contributing to innovative research in a collaborative environment. You’ll be motivated by the opportunity to work across specialised labs, supporting cutting-edge teaching and research.
You will also have:
- A relevant degree or trade, or equivalent experience in supporting teaching and research facilities, particularly in Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering.
- Experience in cell/tissue or bacteria cultivation, imaging, or bio-mechanical testing and analysis, with familiarity in PC2 laboratory environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service mindset, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Australian OHS legislation and laboratory compliance requirements.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
