About the Role
We have an exciting Leadership opportunity for a Deputy Director of Academic Administration to join Swinburne University.
The Deputy Director of Academic Administration plays a vital leadership role at Swinburne, overseeing the strategic development, planning, and operational management of student and academic administration functions. This position is responsible for ensuring effective services for both higher education and vocational education students, focusing on areas such as curriculum implementation, academic calendars, course and fee configuration, results processing, academic progression and scheduling services. As a business lead for critical systems, the Deputy Director is instrumental in defining priorities and business requirements, driving service improvement initiatives, and managing change across various student systems.
Working closely with the Director of Student Administration, the Deputy Director leads a large team (40 +) and is tasked with providing strategic, future-oriented leadership in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. This role emphasizes the importance of innovation through digital technologies and organisational foresight to enhance student experiences. The Deputy Director is responsible for ensuring that operations and processes across Swinburne’s campuses and partner institutions are streamlined and compliant with governing policies, while maintaining a customer-centric approach. The Deputy Director also serves as the Business Owner for critical IT enterprise systems and leads strategic discussions regarding academic calendars and key university dates.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Provide strategic leadership in the delivery of curriculum, scheduling, assessment and progression operational requirements that drive outcomes across the student lifecycle.
- Responsible for maintaining and reporting for curriculum management, academic calendars, fee configuration, scheduling, space utilization, results processing and academic progression.
- Build an environment for your team where staff have the necessary skills and capabilities to ensure systems support staff in providing an integrated and connected student experience, and that students have access to real time, course-specific, advice to enable maximum self-service.
- Act as a delegate for the Product Owner (Director, Student Administration) on responsible systems. Develop innovative improvement strategies, aligning systems and processes with leading practices and maintaining a strong focus on quality control.
- Provide leadership for the development and delivery of IT priorities and upgrades for curriculum, assessment and progress and scheduling systems in collaboration with IT, key partners and system vendors to develop and ensure all systems are up to date and supporting business needs.
Qualifications
- A relevant postgraduate qualification and extensive management and leadership experience in customer service, student experience management in a complex organisation; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
