Responsibilities
  • Investigate the molecular mechanisms of potassium ion channel function and modulation.
  • Describe potassium channel conduction, inactivation and modulation mechanisms using advanced molecular dynamics methods and analysis.
  • Collaborate with leading experimental researchers in cryo EM and electrophysiology.
  • Conduct high-impact research with expected outcomes published in top journals.

Requirements
  • Hold (or be about to complete) a PhD in physics, physical chemistry or a closely related discipline.
  • Research background in computation in biophysics, condensed matter physics or physical chemistry.
  • Experience in atomistic simulations of membrane protein systems, preferably ion channels.
  • Experience in statistical mechanical theory and molecular dynamics simulations using existing packages.
  • Experience with NAMD/VMD and CHARMM is preferred.
  • Background in enhanced sampling and free energy methods, with expertise in replica methods being desirable.
  • Strong skills in supercomputing using both CPUs and GPUs, programming/scripting in a Unix environment.
  • Good molecular visualisation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with experimental collaborators and achieve high impact publications.
  • Experience in paper writing and conference presentation of research findings.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities.
