The Opportunity
As the Executive Director, Internal Audit at Western Sydney University, you’ll take on a leadership role that’s instrumental in shaping the future of the University’s audit and governance functions. You’ll have the unique opportunity to design and oversee comprehensive internal audits, ensuring that our risk management and compliance processes are not only effective but aligned with the University’s strategic goals. Your focus will be on maintaining strong internal controls, as well as leading audit engagements across the University and its entities, where you’ll provide high-level strategic advice to senior management, the Board of Trustees, and the Audit and Risk Committee.
You’ll guide the University’s internal audit function by developing and implementing a forward-thinking, risk-based audit plan, ensuring that audit methodologies are not only up-to-date but also reflective of best practices. Your expertise will be crucial in advising on governance, risk management, and control processes, while cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders both within the University and with external regulatory bodies.
You will also have the opportunity to lead and inspire the Internal Audit team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and development. You’ll encourage innovation and collaboration, ensuring the University’s internal audit processes are efficient, effective, and always improving. About You
To thrive in this role, you will bring a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification, along with professional certifications in audit and assurance. Your extensive experience in leading internal audit functions at a senior level, particularly within large and complex organizations, will be essential. A strong background in providing strategic audit, assurance, and risk management advice to senior leadership will position you as a key advisor on governance and compliance matters.
Your exceptional communication skills will allow you to effectively engage with senior management, offering valuable insights on risk, audit, and compliance issues. As a leader, your ability to inspire and manage teams will be crucial. You will foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, ensuring that the internal audit function remains proactive and aligned with the University’s goals.
