About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our Digital Strategy and Channels (DSC) team. The Digital Channel Operations team within DSC manages the University’s public-facing websites, applications, design system, and content management system (CMS). The team is structured around three key streams: UX Design, Development, and CMS Operations.
As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will lead and oversee the development of web applications and design systems, leveraging your expertise in the following areas:
- Development team leadership
- Full stack development
- Front-end & design system management
- API integration expertise
- DevSecOps & CI/CD pipelines for efficient software delivery
- Agile collaboration
- Development team performance optimisation
You will play a pivotal role in enhancing the University's digital presence, ensuring a seamless user experience across our diverse digital platforms. This position offers the opportunity to lead a talented team and contribute to impactful digital transformation projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop web applications using programming languages, including the Ruby on Rails framework, along with backend technologies (Node.js and Nuxt.js) and supported front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Vue.js)
- Overseeing the evolution and upkeep of the university’s design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across digital platforms. This includes collaborating with digital product managers, designers and CMS developers to implement new components, refine existing patterns, and ensure that the design system supports the institution’s branding and accessibility standards.
- Lead a team of front and backend developers, including oversight of their work, technical upskilling, and prioritisation
- Accountability for development, code reviews, code quality, and support required for maintaining and improving existing applications and websites
- Work closely with UX designers and the CMS team as required to produce beautiful, accessible, usable, and reliable web applications
Who we are looking for
We’re seeking a proactive and technically skilled leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is motivated by the opportunity to drive digital transformation. Your ability to work closely with Product Managers and UX designers, interpreting their needs to guide and align the team, is essential to success in this role.
You will also have:
- Experience leading technical staff in front end and backend technologies
- Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails, and core web technologies (HTML, CSS, Vue.JS, JavaScript, JSON and XML)
- Experience maintaining and evolving design systems, ensuring scalable, consistent, and accessible digital experiences
- Experience with application-appropriate cloud and hosting tools (e.g. Heroku, Amazon Web Services, Git, etc), testing/deployment tools and SQL
- Extensive experience in API integration, DevOps practices
- Ability to work collaboratively with product teams to clarify requirements and estimate work through an adaptive and agile approach

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
