About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Lecturer with a strong background in teaching and supervision, particularly in the fields of computer engineering and embedded systems. The primary purpose of this position is to engage as a lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, student supervision, and further development of the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as performing scholarship, administrative and other activities associated with the School. As a teaching-focused member of staff, the holder of the position will contribute to teaching and learning leadership in the school and will undertake work in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The holder of the position may be able to pursue research in an area aligned with the school’s disciplines.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Teaching:
- Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver learning activities, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in areas of computer engineering and embedded systems. Prospective candidates are advised to review the following course profiles in assessing their fit to the role: COMP3301, CSSE3010, CSSE4011.
- Lead the development of new programs and/or courses in the area of focus, by consulting with program advisors and stakeholders, ensuring courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.
- Participate in educational practice and innovative curriculum design including online learning and alternative teaching methods.
- Maintain and improve the quality of courses as measured through university evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.
- Provide high quality service to students, including academic advice adhering to University Policy relevant to teaching and learning practices.
- Research / Scholarship of Teaching and Learning:
- Conduct research related to teaching in a discipline relevant in the school.
- Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research/SoTL projects.
- Prepare research publications and progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes.
- Supervision and Researcher Development:
- Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, and oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding of qualified employees in line with University policies.
- Manage employee performance by providing coaching, feedback, and training, while promptly addressing conflicts and grievances according to University procedures.
- Ensure accurate remuneration and benefits for employees, coordinating with Human Resources when changes occur.
- Citizenship and Service:
- Foster relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
- Contribute to the processes that enable the academic team to manage the work, including participation in decision-making and serving on relevant committees.
- Perform a range of administrative functions and higher level internal duties and provide strong contribution to activities relevant to the School, faculty and the external community, including industry.

About You
- PhD in electrical or computer engineering or a related area; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge in computer engineering/embedded systems and hands on experience with teaching related courses and guiding project work with students.
- Demonstrated ability for curriculum design, coordination and high quality teaching of undergraduate and/or postgraduate classes in a variety of in-person and online settings.
- Track record of supervision of Honours student projects or equivalent to successful completion.
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a multidisciplinary background.
- Evidence of an emerging program of research and publications in a relevant field.
- Emerging record of supervision of higher degree by research students.
- Demonstrated involvement in university external engagement activities.
