About the Role
The Category Manager plays a key role in the Procurement Team, responsible for developing and executing Category Strategies for the Talent and Corporate Services Portfolio. This role leads end-to-end sourcing activities, manages vendor performance, and ensures alignment with the University’s sustainability objectives. The Category Manager also works closely with internal stakeholders, providing guidance and upskilling in procurement processes and vendor management.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead sourcing activities for the Talent and Corporate Services Category, ensuring contract management and vendor performance.
- Provide procurement advice, ensure compliance, and drive process improvements.
- Develop category plans, negotiate contracts, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet financial and operational targets.
- Support sustainability goals and manage modern slavery risks, ensuring best practices and regulatory compliance.
Who we are looking for
You will have strong interpersonal, consultation, and negotiation skills, enabling you to influence stakeholders and develop solutions that deliver value for money. Your ability to analyse data and derive insights will support achieving optimal commercial outcomes, while your organisational skills and initiative will ensure timely delivery of tasks under broad direction. You will also excel in written and verbal communication, presenting ideas credibly and persuasively while working to reconcile diverse views through negotiation.
You will also have:
- A relevant undergraduate qualification or procurement-related qualifications, or significant management expertise in procurement and contracts management.
- 5-8 years of professional experience with a track record of delivering successful outcomes, particularly in recruitment and services-based categories, with travel category experience highly regarded.
- Proven experience in sourcing processes, tender development, and evaluation, with a focus on achieving strong financial outcomes.
- A high level of computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft applications and financial management/procurement systems, alongside experience implementing social and sustainable procurement practices.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
