About This Opportunity
As an Infrastructure Safety and Wellness Manager (known internally as Senior Manager, Infrastructure Safety and Wellness), you'll play a pivotal role in creating a safe and healthy work environment within the Property and Facilities Division. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to ensure compliance with regulations, manage risks, and promote a positive safety culture. Your expertise will be essential in providing guidance to stakeholders, conducting investigations, and driving continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellness practices.
Property and Facilities operate in high-risk construction, infrastructure and estate management safety environments and the position will advise and support diverse teams in how to maintain and enhance safety practices as well as discharging duties to convey UQ’s obligations. There is considerable capacity to identify and lead innovative projects designed to continually improve workplace health, safety and wellness across the Property and Facilities Division and the University.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement health, safety, and wellness strategies aligned with university objectives.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee safety programs, manage risk, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the university.
- Expert Advice: Provide guidance on health, safety, and wellness matters to senior leadership.
- Team Development: Coach and mentor staff to promote a positive safety culture.
- Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs on health, safety, and wellness topics.
- Investigations: Conduct investigations into incidents and accidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor performance.

About You
Join our team as a Senior Manager, Infrastructure Safety and Wellness! We're seeking a highly qualified professional with extensive experience in workplace health and safety management. Your expertise in construction, facilities management, and regulatory compliance will be essential in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Qualifications Include:
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., occupational health, safety, science, health, psychology, engineering, or construction management).
- Proven experience managing health and safety in large, complex organizations and demonstrated comprehensive understanding of the varied infrastructure risks inherent to large, complex facilities, and high-risk construction activities.
- Demonstrable, substantial experience managing workplace health and safety relevant to the risk profiles of large construction or facilities management areas.
- Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures related to health, safety, and wellness.
- Experience with the engagement of a range of regulators (e.g. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, Electrical Safety Office, Queensland Radiation Safety, Office of Gene Technology Regulator, Queensland Public Health, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (Biosecurity)).
- Strong leadership and team management experience.
- Proven track record of driving positive health, safety, and wellness outcomes.
