About the Role
The Research Assistant will contribute to an ARC-funded Discovery Project focused on memory and image recognition within the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences. Reporting to A/Prof Adam Osth, the role involves data collection, processing, and analysis using computational models, while working within the Complex Human Data Hub. The successful candidate will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team, demonstrating research expertise and supporting the School’s values of collaboration, respect, and integrity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- To conduct original research within the context of the research project, independently and in collaboration with others. This includes study planning, supporting data acquisition (mostly remotely), data processing, and data analysis.
- To disseminate research findings through seminars, conference presentations, and publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
- To contribute to the development of partnerships and relationships with other schools, departments, and centres in the wider University, as required for this project.
- Participate in activities that strengthen the links between the University and the community, and assist with the dissemination and utilisation of psychological knowledge.
Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on high-quality research projects. They will demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, alongside experience in data analysis, computational modelling, and a keen interest in research methods and practices in psychology.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent research higher degree in an area of psychology, metascience, or cognate discipline.
- Experience with collecting, processing, and analysing data from cognitive experiments on memory.
- Experience with computational modeling, especially models of recognition memory.
- Competency in the Python programming language.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
