This role is part of a joint initiative between The University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). CSIRO is Australia’s national science agency, a powerhouse of ideas, technologies and skills for building prosperity, growth, health and sustainability. The role will sit with the Ecosystem Change Ecology team in Perth, Western Australia, aligned to the School of Biological Sciences at UWA and CSIRO Health & Biosecurity. This multidisciplinary team generates knowledge on the mechanistic links and synergistic interactions between landscape change, species invasions and native species resilience in terrestrial ecosystems.
About the opportunity
You will undertake research on developing a biological control solution for stinking passionflower (Passiflora foetida), collaborating actively with other researchers on this large project. You will travel for fieldwork across the Kimberley and Pilbara regions of Western Australia and contribute to the operations of laboratory and glasshouse facilities as part of this position. An important component of the role will be to compile and analyse large volumes of data, including plot-level vegetation samples, environmental measurements from dataloggers, time series image analysis, and remotely-sensed observations.
About you
- PhD in ecology or a related discipline
- Highly developed quantitative skills with experience in ecological analyses
- Demonstrated track record in theoretical, conceptual and practical knowledge in applied ecology relevant to invasive species management
