About the opportunity
The Research and Prototyping Foundry team is looking for a Process Engineer – Advanced FBG to manage and operate a range of specialised range of Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBG) equipment and instruments within the Research & Prototype Foundry, including specialized FBG fabrication and characterization capabilities. This role will also provide sound, expert technical support and advice to researchers using the facility, aiding the research, and providing collaborative research input for projects being undertaken.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- work within a dynamic team, reporting to the Facility and Program Manager
- provide advanced FBG technical support and guidance to researchers, students and other technical staff
- maintain the FBG facility workplace ensuring that the research, learning and teaching requirements of the FBG fabrication facility are met
- ensure the FBG facility is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements
- prepare reporting and documentation for the work area
- provide effective leadership and management guidance and support to the staff in the facility.
About you
- bachelor’s degree in science or engineering preferred
- experience and expertise in Fibre Bragg gratings fabrication and related applications
- demonstrated experience and expertise in optical fibres and experiments with optical fibres
- experience in coordinating the day-to-day running of scientific instrumentation in a multiuser facility
- high-level verbal and written communication skills, especially in scientific communication and the preparation of reports
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgment in resolving matters that may arise
- demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- experience in WHS and risk assessment preparation and legislative requirements.
