Responsibilities
Provide manufacturing and mechanical technical support within the ANU Research School of Physics mechanical workshop.
Manufacture, assemble and install precision mechanical parts and assemblies.
Advise on mechanical design aspects, materials selection and manufacturing processes.
Requirements
Qualified mechanical tradesperson with experience producing high-quality high-precision parts using CAD software and CNC equipment.
Experience working with prototype, research and development, or scientific parts and assemblies.
Ability to solve challenging problems and encourage team members to develop effective solutions.

Responsibilities
Coordinate technical aspects of food compositional analysis
Assist in the design of research studies, under supervision of senior staff.
Apply and instruct others on the application of specialist research skills, including sample preparation of food products for chemical analysis and application of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) and olfactometry.
Assist in the conduct of complex experiments, involving identifying and measuring key quality-determining components in food products, including volatile components.
Maintenance and troubleshooting issues with scientific equipment.
Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols.
Ensure the appropriate storage, handling and disposal of chemicals, equipment, stores and/or samples/specimens.
Assist with drafting research documentation, including ethics and funding applications.
Undertake literature searches and reviews.
Assist with routine team administration.
Assist with preparing reports, graphs, figures and presentations on research outcomes at different stages of the research cycle outcomes.
Support fostering relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.
Requirements
Completion of a degree level qualification in Science, Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering or equivalent; or completion of a Diploma with relevant work experience.
Excellent practical experience skills and experience in relevant research methodology or techniques required for this body of research (flavour chemistry).
Experience using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and related analytical techniques.
Experience with either cereal (specifically oat), meat and/or vanilla products would be considered favourably.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
Ability to work independently on routine procedures.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Well-organised, methodical and self-motivated.
Previous experience in a similar role would be considered favourably.

Provide technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff in crop and soil sciences, including assisting with practical field classes and preparation of teaching materials.
Offer technical advice on trials and research techniques, in consultation with the Trials Coordinator, ensuring adherence to correct methods and standards.
Support field-based research through farming services, including land cultivation, weed control, sowing, irrigation, harvesting, threshing, and bulk seed storage.
Assist with the operation, calibration, and maintenance of farm equipment and machinery, ensuring preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
Ensure compliance with UQ policies, safety regulations, and environmental management standards, including the handling of chemicals, water, and waste.
Assist with staff mentoring, training, and inductions, promote positive culture, and support the efficient management of farm assets, machinery, and infrastructure.
Requirements
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with no relevant work experience, or a diploma or post trades certificate with at least 2 or more years of subsequent work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
Appropriate licensing for operating farm vehicles.
Appropriate accreditation for agricultural chemical handling.
Demonstrated technical knowledge in the areas of agronomy and or horticulture.
Demonstrated knowledge, experience and skills in operating farm machinery, pest control, crop production, irrigation and fertilisation, and an ability to communicate and train others in these areas.
Experience in field and farm operations including site preparation, coordinating trials, maintaining or repairing farm equipment, and developing the farm to meet the demands of clients and the priorities of the Crop and Field Research Unit and University.
Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety issues in a research farm or similar environment including experience in the provision of instruction and training in the safe use of equipment associated with field related activities.
