Responsibilities
- Providing 2IC support to the Manager of Animal Services
- Ensuring high standards of animal welfare
- Coordinating essential daily operations and service delivery within the University’s PC2 animal facilities
- Guiding technicians in breeding programs
- Undertaking and overseeing rigorous welfare assessments
- Maintaining precise genetic records
- Performing and training others in animal handling, husbandry, veterinary procedures and related activities
- Directly supporting research integrity and ethical standards
- Providing leadership in the absence of the Manager
- Creating best practice in consultation with research groups

Requirements
- Direct experience in rodent handling, husbandry and colony management
- Strong understanding of genetics and transgenics
- Capabilities in data entry and management systems
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Strong understanding of animal welfare practices, ethical requirements, and regulatory standards in a PC2 animal laboratory setting
- Proficiency in rodent husbandry, including implementing and managing breeding programs
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff, preferably within a rodent facility or similar laboratory setting
- Proven experience in developing and conducting training in rodent handling and ethics
- Experience in implementing process improvements within animal services

- Casual hourly rates will be in the range $47.34 - $50.20, depending on experience, plus super of up to 11%.
Responsibilities
- Provide high quality nursing and technical services within the Small Animal Hospital at UQ Vets.
- Assist with teaching Undergraduate Veterinary students and Veterinary Technology students in a clinical environment.
Requirements
- Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology plus at least 2 years nursing experience, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing.
- Comfortable working sole charge nurse over a range of shifts from day, afternoon, overnights, weekends and public holidays.
- High level organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of ethical requirements, principles and practices relevant to all areas of veterinary nursing.
- Knowledge and application of relevant policies and procedures applicable to employment, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary nursing.
- Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.
