Description | The Associate Director of Student Life is responsible for the leadership, administration, and operational functions of the Department of Student Life within Graduate & Professional Student Affairs on the Portland campus. Student Life provides a broad spectrum of inclusive, collaborative and interdisciplinary based programs and campus events to support a community of professionally active and involved graduate and professional students. The Associate Director provides direct student club/organization advisement and guidance, leadership/professional development program and activities, new student orientation program assistance, off campus housing assistance, budget planning and oversight, strategic planning and program assessment.

Responsibilities | AdministrativeResponsible for the overall operation and management of the Office of Student Life.Manage departmental budgets including: orientation and student government related budgets; student activity fee fund disbursement, expenditure approval, account reconciliation, policy development, etc.Responsible for creation, design and content of electronic methods of information delivery including all department social media, web, publications and other forms of communicationsResponsible for the oversite of web-bases systems; Presence platform and University Tickets, etc. as utilized by office, students, etc.Serve as a student conduct officer, advisor, or otherwise as needed.Plans and implements a program of training and assessment for student organizations and advisors. Serves as a resource and guide for advisors.Plan, implement and monitor campus student travel policy.On-call duty coverage as needed for response to emergencies and needs associated with student travel.Assist in the implementation appropriate procedures during emergency or crisis situations in conjunction with supervisor, Facilities Management, Security, Health Services, Counseling and off-campus agencies (local authorities, medical facilities/ personnel, etc.) as required.Interpret and enforce a wide variety of University and individual College/academic program policies and procedures governing student behavior and professionalism.Confer regularly with the Associate Dean of Students, fellow student affairs staff, and other University personnel to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs, activities, policies, exchange information, investigate and resolve problems, refer students, and the like.Respond to other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students and/or Vice President of Student Affairs in accordance with departmental, divisional and institutional needs and goals.Coordinate assessment projects, strategic initiatives and assists with long-range planning for the department and the Division of Student Affairs.Provides direction and guidance to professional and student staff.Performs other related duties as assigned.ProgrammingPlans, implements executes and attends an extensive and diverse program of events, activities, co-curricular programming to graduate and professional students.Work with academic and other units to provide diverse co-curricular programming, and guidance that meets educational and professional development needs of students, and in line with the Interprofessional Education program goals.Plan, implement and assess a collaborative campus program of engagement and leadership/professional development opportunities focused toward undergraduate and graduate/ professional students.Provides direct advisement to campus student organizations in the development and implementation of student organization programming and events.Assists in the planning, implementation and assessment of graduate and professional student orientation and transition programs.Co-advise the Graduate and Professional Student Association and advise the 100+ student organizations. Serve as a liaison between students and University administration.Negotiate contracts and agreements with performers, vendors and other program providers to service and support campus events and activities.
Qualifications | A Master’s degree required in higher education, student affairs, or related discipline plus two – four years of relevant administrative experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge are acquired.Sound understanding of student development theory and the educational, cultural and social needs of a graduate and professional student community.Ability to work evenings, and weekends as necessary.Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff and a wide range of external stakeholders.Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint and social media applications. Ability to manage complex computer software systems and applications for tracking data and information.Skilled in use of software to create electronic newsletters, webpage content, etc.Demonstrated ability to work individually and as a member of a professional team, establishing strong working relationships across campus constituenciesDemonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
