Description | Subject matter experts (SMEs) within the College of Professional Studies (CPS) are critical to the success of UNE’s online programs. SMEs work closely with a member of the UNE Instructional Design Team who serves as the project manager, facilitates the development of the course, and ensures that pedagogy and content meet program expectations. SMEs receive supervision and guidance from the MBS Program and must work with Instructional Design to meet deliverable deadlines set by CPS. The role of the SME in CPS course development is to help design a graduate level course(s) for online students using best practices for online education that are aligned to program learning outcomes and can be delivered by instructors other than/in addition to the SME. The Gross Anatomy course to be created will need to assist/prep students to take the MCAT and other standardized exams.
Responsibilities | SMEs are responsible for:Creating a list of course learning outcomesWriting a course syllabusRecording video “lectures”Designing engaging visual representations to help students learn contentCreating engaging assignments, group activities and presentations, writing interactive discussion board topics that enable students to delve more deeply into the content while building communityDesigning assessments to measure learning outcomesCreating an instructor guide to assist course facilitatorsProvide expert and graduate level knowledge in Gross AnatomyDevelop learning modules that guide students through their educational experience while upholding and adhering to the CPS commitment to student successWillingness to analyze best practices in online gross anatomy educationCurriculum design experience and familiarity with implementation of principle of backward designDemonstrated skill in creating learning activities and meaningful assessments of student learningWriting and editorial skill, understanding of copyright issuesTechnical skill in generating and editing graphics/imagesAbility to design, edit, and embed multi-media content in html filesExcellent collaborative and communication skillsAbility to work independently once a task is thoroughly explained and effectively during time-on-taskCommit to weekly check-in meetings with the Instructional Design team and/or the ProgramParticipate in drafting a schedule for deliverablesMeet agreed-upon deadlines per the master course development schedule
Qualifications | The ideal candidate has experience teaching online in an educational setting, has demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and assessment, and has a passion for teaching anatomy, specifically Gross AnatomyMaster’s degree in anatomy field – PhD preferredA minimum of three years teaching experience in the area of anatomyA desire to motivate and encourage students in academic and professional settingsPrevious course development experience with working adult students and non-traditional students in an online settingExpertise teaching online and the desire to learn and apply new technological approaches to educationExperience using the Brightspace/D2L Learning Management system
