UNSW IT is part of the Operations Division at UNSW. The IT team at UNSW plays a critical role in enabling the University’s teaching, research and industry engagement. Our priorities are to drive innovative technology architectures and be a trusted advisor and service partner to the University to enable its ambitious aspirations.
The Senior Change Manager is responsible for the development and effective implementation of the change strategies, with a strong organisational change element, to support successful adoption technology changes, as part of the UNSW IT tech portfolios.
They will work closely with the UNSW leadership team and will help facilitate engagement and communications activities to support technology adoption at UNSW.
The Change Manager reports to the Director Engagement and Change or a Change Lead, and may have direct reports.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Apply an agreed change management approach and methodology to develop fit for purpose Change Strategies.
- Undertake detailed impact assessment and use the insights to tailor the delivery of change management interventions, including consideration the UNSW change landscape and existing activities, as well as the academics calendars.
- Support the UNSW Leadership Team (e.g., Faculty Executive Director, Dean, Heads of School, business unit Directors) to effectively deliver leader-led change communications.
- Develop a fit for purpose change communications approaches, appropriate to the complexity of the proposed changes and aligned with UNSW communications channels and brand standards.
- Develop high quality change management deliverables.
- Identify and manage change related risk (people, operations, organisational), including impacts associated with the change, development of mitigation plans with associated costs and benefits.
- Build change maturity, capability and capacity in the project teams and beyond. Provide change coaching/mentoring support for Senior Leaders to build change capability.
- Establish and maintain positive, productive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project stakeholder matrix and engagement plan(s).
- Work with the Faculty/Division Business Partners to identify most effective engagement channels and key messages within Faculties/Divisions. Assist to coordinate and establish formal / informal change networks across the University.
- Actively seek feedback to help measure the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement and change management activities.
- Collaborate with peers in the UNSW IT Change Management Practice and other change practitioners to ensure consistency of approach and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and / or solid experience in delivering effective change management in large scale project include changes to people, structures, technology, process, finance, and operations.
- Experience working as a senior change professional within an IT transformational program.
- Effective self-leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, and importantly, the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience of working with a project management framework, including linking this with change management deliverables.
- Capacity to plan to achieve priority outcomes and respond flexibly to changing and at times ambiguous environments; ability to work systematically to resolve problems, identify causes, anticipate implications, and make informed decisions.
- Experience in designing and applying fit-for-purpose change approaches and deliverables; an understanding of the context and culture of the higher education sector (preferred but not essential).
- Ability to work in a highly adaptable and consultative manner, working in a collaborative way to deliver the best outcomes.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s goals, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
